Developing Your Ideas

Have you ever had a great idea pop into your mind, then disappear just as quickly?
It is important to always jot down your ideas. No matter how silly, undeveloped, or brief, it can help incite you later on.
From the perfect setting, a character's appearance, or even a sentence or too, any idea is worth taking the time to put on paper.

Inspiration is all around you, and ideas can come from anywhere. Try to keep a journal with you to write down your thoughts on the go.
J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, came up the idea for her story at a train station! Additionally, many writers have been seen jotting down new ideas on napkins for lack of paper!

Have you ever sat down to write and you didn't know where to start?
Gather up ideas by looking at the world around you. To prevent writer's block, always make a plan before writing.
Whether you take a few minutes to think the plot and characters through, or you make a detailed outline, planning out your ideas is imperative to help a story flow smoothly. Don't be afraid to change things and revise your original plan.
The important thing is to know where your story is going before you start writing.

Always try to take down your ideas, and plan out your stories to prevent writer's block.

Keep an Open Mind

Keeping an open mind allows you to be curious and question the world around you. From reading a book for the first time, to meeting new people, it is vital to be open to new ideas and cultures. An open mind allows you to be accepting and appreciative of all of our differences.
All of our stories are different. You never know what someone has been through. We all have thoughts to share and opinions to express, but you should continuously keep an open mind, and sometimes agree to disagree.
In your writing, don't be afraid to share your views on the world. Don't be afraid to stand up for what you believe in. Write what you feel and express your thoughts. You may see things different, but that doesn't mean you are wrong. Be open to new ideas.

Have the courage to speak out. Have the courage to be different.

From the Heart

Always remember to write from the heart. The reader should be inspired and captivated by your words. Write about your dreams, experiences, desires, hopes, and fears. Don't be afraid of what others will think. Don't be afraid of critics. You shouldn't have to apologize for being who you are. No matter what anyone says, have confidence in your work. Be proud of what you aspire to accomplish.

Everyone has a voice that deserves to be heard. You are as good as anyone, and if they can do it, why can't you?
Be fearless. Be bold. Write your story.
Teach someone a lesson, share your thoughts, express yourself. Just don't stay silent.

Open up your heart and write it all out on paper.

A Journey Through Your Steps

Have you ever stopped to realize that your shoes go everywhere with you?
With each step you take on your journeys, you are traveling with your shoes to each new place. Your shoes are always there with you taking you where you want to go. It may sound childish, however my shoes inspired me to write a poem about the destinations and discoveries they have traveled to see. I hope you enjoy it.

White Flowered Sandals

White flowered sandals
old and worn
with edges frayed and torn.
White flowered sandals
took me far; to sites new and old
collecting stories to be told.
White flowered sandals
tossed aside on the sand
brushed by the waves reaching toward the land.
White flowered sandals
on a voyage with me
running and jumping with the world to see.
White flowered sandals
on my feet
with places to go and people to meet.
White flowered sandals
learning and discovering along the way,
a journey, not a destination, is what makes it a great day.

Sometimes all you need is to consider simple objects in a new perspective to be inspired for a writing piece. Remember to enjoy every journey along the way. The destination does not matter if you make the most of the time you have getting there.

I hope my poem showed you that although they are just shoes to some people, to me, my white flowered sandals hold opportunities to discover new places and a means to travel by.
I love my frayed white flowered sandals and all of the journeys we have shared.

All the Colors of the Rainbow

Have you ever noticed how a color can influence your mood?
Often times people associate yellow with happiness, blue with sadness, red for anger, and so on.
However, a color can represent various emotions. You can use colors to paint a picture in the reader's mind and to set the mood for the scene.

"The whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of color. Our entire being is nourished by it. This mystic quality of color should likewise find expression in a work of art."
-Hans Hofmann

Make art with your colors. Be fun, creative, and genuine. Paint a picture using paint or even words. Don't be afraid to be unique and original. Don't be afraid to be YOU!

Fun Fact: Did you know that rainbows are actually CIRCLES and we only see a part of it because of the horizon?

Use colors in your writing to create a whole new world for your reader to imagine and explore. Be as crazy and ridiculous as possible. Don't be afraid to take risks. Remember to use colors all over as sensory imagery and to establish a mood.
I hope this inspires the rainbow of colors in you!

A Second Look...

Re-discovering old writing pieces is a great way to reconnect with the old you. You get to experience your thoughts and feelings from when you were younger as well as getting a kick out of your old work. It is always fun to find yourself laughing at your atrocious handwriting (guilty!) or your crazy mistakes and thoughts!
Also, taking a second look at a current writing piece, especially with a clear mind and fresh new outlook, can truly help you to improve your work. You will often find errors you previously overlooked or get inspired with new ideas to make it even better. It is always great to improve your work and revisit it later on.

Additionally, remember to always save your writing pieces! No matter how silly you think it is, always always always keep it! Saving your past writing pieces can help you develop new ideas later on, as well as give you a chance to reflect and see how much your work has changed and grown with you through the years.
Lately I have been going through all of my old writing. I thought it would be fun to post some of my old poems I had written a few years ago. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

The Lost Memory

The wind took it,
it was my most precious possession
It took it like taking candy from a baby - easy
The wind flew off with it
not caring if I wanted it back or not
The wind took my memories
Every last one
They were gone forever
I cried my eyes out
not remembering anything
that happened to me this day
Everything that I thought
was echoing in my head

My Bike

I smiled
as I felt
the wind whipping
my hair
and rushing
against my face
I peddled and peddled
on my special white bike
Down the sidewalk I went
Laughing as I go
I throw my head back in joy
As I slow down,
the wind
becomes a gentle breeze
lightly playing with my hair
This is what I love
This is what I look forward to
in the hot
dry summer
This is me
and
my special
bike.

One Window is All I Need...

to laugh
to dream
to hope
to imagine
to connect
to find myself
to inspire
to love
to live.

I hope you enjoyed these old poems of mine!
Feel free to comment below and even post some of your old poems! I would love to read them!
It's okay to laugh at yourself, to reflect, to learn, to grow, and to change.

Celebrate Mother's Day

As you all know, Mother's Day is coming up and I wanted to share with you a poem I wrote for my Mom.
I hope you like it!

Through It All

Dark curls falling down,
dark curls tossed around.
Constantly sticking by my decisions,
and teaching me more,
You truly are a Mother I adore.

No matter what problem,
you are always there,
Giving me advice you ache to share.

Motivate, inspire, care
You are the rock to our family,
Each time being there.
You catch me when I fall,
and manage our lives through it all.

No matter what problem,
Big or small,
You are there
Helping me accomplish it all.

Dark curls falling down,
dark curls tossed around.
The words on my lips I can never quite say,
I speak them to you easily on this day.
Always remember,
I love you
And always appreciate all you do.

I hope you all enjoyed my poem and it inspired new ideas for you!
Have a wonderful Mother's Day and be sure to let the motherly figures in your life know that they are always appreciated and loved.

Quote of the Day

"Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore."
-Andre Gide

"Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward."
-C. S. Lewis

Both of the these quotes focus on the same main concept; accepting your past in order to move forward.
This is a message I have expressed before. Life is truly too short to focus on mistakes and fears. You must take chances and explore new opportunities, moving forward towards a bright new beginning.
Everyone has made mistakes. Everyone has regrets. The path of life is full of twists and turns, but accepting the choices you have made is crucial for a new start.

Have you ever played back a moment in your head, imagining what you would have done differently?

I know that I have.
Moving forward can be hard, but you have to keep in mind that what's done is done. There is no going back.
Picture your self on the monkey bars, swinging indecisive on a middle rung. You've gone too far to go back, but you can see the way ahead. What do you do?
Making the choice not to look back, but to continue forward is what change and moving on to a fresh start is all about.
You can't change your past; you can only accept it.

Inspiration From Your Surroundings

What inspires you?
This is my question to you. Feel free to comment below on how you get inspiration!

On numerous occasions I have been asked where I get my inspiration for my writing from. To be honest, I get it from the world around me. So many little things in each day can ignite my creativity. Perhaps it is something I see, an expression I hear, a food I taste, someone I see, or something I love. The key to motivational writing is to be aware of the things around you. Look closer at things you may have overlooked. Pay attention to your surroundings. You are bound to find something to inspire you somewhere!

Writing is all about creativity. Be original and use your daily life and experiences in your writing. Let happy moments, music, and good times with friends inspire you.
Let you find inspiration in anything and all things around you!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Warmer weather, blooming flowers, and sunshine, sandals, shorts, and tank tops are all on the way.
Spring is like a fresh start. A time to reflect and revise, to enjoy and to laugh. Take a moment to appreciate these great quotes all about spring!

"I like to express certain things that happen in my life, the joy of spring, the birds singing and young babies coming into the world. You know, the whole thing as well as the part I'm not happy with, the sad part."
-Roy Haynes

"Earth teach me to forget myself as melted snow forgets its life. Earth teach me resignation as the leaves which die in the fall. Earth teach me courage as the tree which stands all alone. Earth teach me regeneration as the seed which rises in the spring."
-William Alexander

"I do hope that our spring will be starting shortly and we will all be able to enjoy some sunshine again."
-Lesley Garrett

"I love feeling the crispness of fall and the sensuality of spring."
-Christopher Meloni

Spring In Your Step

Today is the first day of Spring.
The warm air, flowers in bloom, birds chirping, and the cool morning breeze. These are the things I love most about spring.
Be sure to stop and the smell the roses. I mean that literally and figuratively. Always remember to slow things down a bit and take life in. You only live once, so you better make the best of it.
Pick a flower, or admire the bright green grass. Look at the wonderful clouds, and feel the sun's warmth on your skin. Do not forget to admire your surroundings and pay close attention to the intricate details all around you.
Do not forget to open your eyes to beauty, detail, and life.

Quote of the Day

"At the center of non-violence stands the principal of love."
-Martin Luther King Jr.

Sometimes love is all we have in the world. When all else fails, turn to those you love. Turn to the people in your life who truly love you for you. When you are around your family and friends, all worries should wash away like the rain on a clear summer's day. Listen to your heart.
Always remember to love. <3

Bright Dreamers

Have you ever noticed how wonderful the sun can be?
Warm, bright, and colorful all at the same time.
Let your dreams shine brighter than the sun, and go farther than the stars!
Let the sunlight inspire new ideas. Dream of another world outside ours. Imagine what life could be like.

Don't be afraid to wonder. Don't be afraid to let others in. Most importantly, don't be afraid to be who you really are :)
